Introducing SmartCare

Dear Gertjan, the Macha Community, and ‘Linknet’,

After about a year’s discussion and reflection, the development team and initial partners appear to have reached a consensus on a new name: the SmartCare system, for the portable EMR system formerly known as CCPTS (Continuity of Care and Patient Tracking System).

Year Report 2000

This annual report for the year 2000 is a statement of the activities of Macha Mission Hospital Management Board.  The Management Board is in the habit year in and year out at the beginning of the year of committing itself to a plan of action.  This statement narrates the achievements and constraints met during the year 2000.

Zambia Enrolled Nurse’s training school (ZEN)

Macha enrolled nurse’s training school is one of the departments under Macha Mission Hospital, opened in 1967.

The school has government approval to recruit twenty-five (25) students per year. The training programme is divided into four (4) terms.

The school philosophy of care is to attain Excellency with 100% PASS RATE, secondary the school seeks to graduate compassionate and caring nurses.

Its main function is to train students to be enrolled nurses for service throughout the country. The school offers a two-year certificate course for enrolled nurses. The school enrolls twenty five to thirty students annually. The school receives applications from all over the country and the student body comprises of young ladies and gentlemen from different places within Zambia.

Macha Mission Hospital, what, why and where

History

Macha Mission was established in 1906 by Brethren In Christ Church. In 1924, a Registered Nurse arrived from United States of America, with the present hospital being built about one kilometre from the main mission station in 1957. The number of hospital beds has gradually increased (in number) from 120 to the present 208 government-approved beds. The hospital now includes men’s ward (43), women’s ward (53) maternity ward (34), Paediatrics ward (51) and Continued Care Facility (27)
